The Different Types of LED Displays

Indoor vs. Outdoor LED Displays

Indoor LED Displays: These are used inside buildings, such as offices, conference halls, retail outlets, and places of worship. They offer better spectrophotometric colour and high colour saturation. Indoor screens have a smaller pixel pitch, making them ideal for shorter viewing distances.

Outdoor LED Displays: These are commonly seen in outdoor venues, stadiums, and roadside advertising screens. They provide full colour and very high brightness. Outdoor screens have a larger pixel pitch as they are often viewed from a greater distance and are designed to withstand adverse weather conditions.

What exactly is Pixel Pitch?

Pixel pitch is the distance between LEDs on the display, measured in millimetres. A smaller pixel pitch means LEDs are closer together, allowing for higher resolution and better image quality. A smaller pixel pitch is preferred for indoor displays with close viewing, while outdoor displays viewed from a distance can have a larger pixel pitch.

How important is brightness, and what are Nits?

Brightness is crucial for visibility. Outdoor displays need ultra-high brightness to combat sunlight glare. They contain many bright LEDs per pixel. By default, indoor displays not exposed to direct sunlight are less bright.

Brightness is measured in nits (candelas per square meter). Outdoor displays offer several times more brightness than indoor screens.

Options for LED Displays tailored to your unique specifications

Power Requirements

Due to their brightness levels and larger size, outdoor displays consume more power, while indoor displays are more energy efficient.

Power requirements vary depending on screen size, resolution, and brightness. We can advise on the required power required for your speficiation.

Types of LED Displays

Full-colour LED Screens: Used for vibrant visuals in indoor and outdoor settings.

Monochrome LED Displays: Single-colour screens, often used for text or simple graphics.

Semi-Outdoor Screens: Positioned under eaves or canopies, offering ultra-high brightness but not weather resistant.

When selecting an LED display, Technical Display Systems considers viewing distance, environment, and unique application requirements. This tailored approach ensures that we deliver solutions that not only meet but exceed your expectations.
