Intelligent Switchable Glass – Rear Projection

The client, Training 2000 Ltd, who have been established for almost 50 years, are a large Group Training Association offering business solutions, commercial courses and Apprenticeship programmes across multiple industry sectors.

The brief was for a rear projection set up to display static and moving images on to two windows that are located at the entrance of their new £1m advanced engineering manufacturing center.

The projected images had to be of a very high quality, and the system had to be user friendly.

Our Approach

Technical Display designed a system that incorporated two very bright, “5000 ANSI Lumens”, high definition, wall mounted projectors. The projectors had to have a long lamp life and a reassuring 5 Years manufacturer’s warranty, as they were to be operating at long periods throughout each day.

The existing glass windows would be fitted with an intelligent switchable film, so that they could be turned to opaque when rear projection was required. When switched, the film provides the perfect surface for projection in this environment.

When projection is not required, the intelligent switchable glass film is turned off, and the widows become clear so that the inside of the facility can be viewed by the public.

We also recommended an SY 4 button wall mounted control panel, to be programmed so that when “ON” is selected, the 2 projectors will automatically turn on and the intelligent switchable glass on the windows will turn to opaque, ready for rear projection.

When “OFF” was selected from the control panel, the 2 projectors will turn off, and the intelligent switchable glass will switch to clear mode.

The Result

The end result is an amazing, eye catching dual display that is very easy to operate.

The high quality images that appear to float on the glass are a definite “wow factor”, and grab the attention of everyone who enters the building.
